Since its inception in 1963, the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies has been recognised as one of the leading intellectual institutions of the global south. The Centre has accomplished a generational transition by reinventing itself in the 21st century, with a fresh commitment to forging links between the social sciences and the humanities, and to discovering non-European lineages of political and ethical thought in Indian languages. CSDS has been supported by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi under the Ministry of Education, Government of India since 1969.




Application: 

The CSDS library is a research library, primarily used by members of the Faculty and Staff of CSDS. We are looking for a Deputy Librarian to lead a team of library staff to build and maintain the Centre’s collection of books and multimedia resources. Ability to generate and maintain an archival collection of documents, media resources and online collections of the Centre would be highly appreciated.

Pay Level

Rs.37,400-67,000 with grade pay of 9,000.

Age Limit

50 years, Age limit may be relaxed in the case of exceptional candidates. The qualifications and eligibility criteria


Essential Requirements:

•   Master’s degree in Library Science from a recognized university.

•   Evidence of innovative library service and familiarity with computerization of library.

•   At least five years work experience as Assistant Librarian with proven capabilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

•   M.Phil. Degree in Library Science/ Information Science/ Documentation/ Archives and Manuscript keeping.

•   Seven years work experience as Assistant/Deputy Librarian with evidence of professional commitment.

•   Knowledge of Libsys and Koha software.
